What is potential?

What is the word potential? What does it mean to have potential? Its definition is “something that can develop or become actual” (Merriam-Webster). I believe that to many if not all of us this definition probably makes sense and is easy to understand. But, in reference to us as individuals I think the definition is a little more like this, “being able to be developed into something to achieve success”. To many being told that they have potential is a triumph, although in its own way it can be viewed as a triumph it’s just the beginning or as Chad George stated it can be “the catastrophe that can end whatever it is that you are doing”. Personally, I don’t like to be told that I have potential. There is no satisfaction or triumph there for me, being told that I have potential is terrifying to me. Why? Because now I have to step up my game as a filmmaker or as a martial artist (mainly as a filmmaker). But it also drives me to want to be a better filmmaker because I don’t want to let the person I am working with or working for down and I don’t want to let myself down. I have never claimed to be the best video editor or videographer. But I sure am capable and willing to put in the effort to do things to the best of my ability. I’m also capable and willing to learn to be better at what I do. This is the message that I believe Chad George is trying to impart in one of his many “car talks”. But in order to hear that conversation you’ll have to tune into The Savage Hour Podcast.
